Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: Public grant(s) – National budget only. Main source(s): Institutional Grant Na Homolce Hospital Background The presence and extent myocardial fibrosis are associated with poor outcomes in patients severe aortic regurgitation. In the present study, we tested a correlation between left ventricular (LV) strain derived by using feature-tracking cardiac magnetic resonance (MRI) diffuse percentage (DMF%) at quantitative histology. Methods A study population included 23 (age 51 ± 12 years, 78% males) who underwent perioperative biopsy during valve surgery for regurgitation had satisfactory pre-surgery MRI. Myocardial specimens obtained deep needle technique from basal interventricular septum were stained picrosirius red, digitalized, analyzed Image J software pathologist blinded to imaging findings. DMF% was calculated as ratio total collagen content area. MRI-derived global longitudinal-(GLS), circumferential- (GCS), radial (GRS) strain, well their heart rate systolic blood pressure, assessed certified imager histological analysis. Results Compared normal values, all showed increased (19 9%) decreased GLS (15 2%) despite preserved LV ejection fraction (64 7%). Out parameters, only GLS/heart ratio, GCS/heart extracellular volume significant (Table 1, Figure 1). contrast, GCS tended correlate DMF%. remaining parameters including GRS did not show association. Patients focal midwall scar late gadolinium enhancement (n=8, 35%), which mainly localized septum, similar than without (14.5±2.3 vs 15.3±2.3, p = 0.768). Conclusions Feature-tracking-derived ratios over most promising indices non-invasive assessment fraction. 1 Legend Correlation GLS/HR 1A) 1B) %. histology Picrosirius red (collagen fibers red).

Aortic valve replacement in patients with severe aortic regurgitation and reduced left ventricular ejection fraction.
Aortic Regurgitation and Reduced Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction To the Editor: Chaliki et al1 have presented data in patients with severe aortic regurgitation (AR) with normal left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (LVEF 50%; n 73). “Mild” LVEF reduction (35% to 50%; n 134) and “markedly” low LVEF ( 35%; n 43) who were operated on between 1980 and 1995. In February of 1980,2 we documented ...
متن کاملLow-flow aortic stenosis and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction.
Valvular aortic stenosis (AS) is the most frequent valvular disease in developed countries. Treatment decisions in AS are mainly based upon the symptomatic status of the patient and the severity of AS. Doppler echocardiography represents the standard tool for detecting and assessing the severity of the disease. Under the same denomination of severe AS [aortic valve area (AVA) < 1 cm(2)], severa...
متن کاملExercise Echocardiography in Asymptomatic Patients with Severe Aortic Stenosis and Preserved Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction
The management of asymptomatic patients with severe aortic stenosis (AS) remains controversial. Recent series reported that early aortic valve replacement might be associated with improved clinical outcomes. However, the risk-benefit ratio should be carefully evaluated and early surgery only be proposed to a subset of asymptomatic patients considered at higher risk. Exercise echocardiography ca...
متن کاملassociation between androgenic hormone levels and left ventricular ejection fraction
background : androgens have been shown to have diverse effects on the cardiovascular system. the aim of this study was to compare androgenic hormone levels in patients with different left ventricular ejection fractions (ef). methods : the study population consisted of 515 consecutive men who were referred for angiographic studies and whose results of echocardiography and coronary angiography we...
متن کاملComprehensive Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance Assessment in Patients With Sarcoidosis and Preserved Left Ventricular Ejection Fraction.
BACKGROUND Cardiac sarcoidosis (CS) may manifest as arrhythmia or even sudden cardiac death. Because patients with CS often present with nonspecific symptoms, normal electrocardiography, and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction, a reliable diagnostic tool for the work-up of CS is needed. Late gadolinium enhancement-cardiovascular magnetic resonance has proven diagnostic value in CS but ...
